Now Presenting: The 2026 OT Select DPOY

This week Overtime Select will be rolling out the awards for the 2026 OT Select season. We continue today with the second to last award of the year, Defensive Player of the Year. DPOY goes to the player who was the best defender in the league and this year the award is going to the Venom Tears captain Micah Ojo 🔒

Micah Ojo established herself as the league’s best defender on the way to guiding the Venom Tears to not only their first ever win in program history but also to their first ever appearance at Championship Weekend. In their journey to the semi-finals, Ojo broke nearly every block record that the league has 🐍

Ojo now has the most blocks in a career with 21, surpassing former OT Select MVP and DPOY Saniyah Hall. In addition, Ojo set the single game blocks record with seven in the Venom Tears first game against the Drifty Dreamerz, breaking the previous record of four blocks. Lastly, Ojo’s 5.0 BPG this season established the best single season mark for most blocks per game which was previously held by Danielle Osho at 3.5 BPG ✋

Ojo also averaged 1.7 SPG making her one of just two players in the league to average over 1.5 SPG and 2.0 BPG this year alongside Royal Reign’s Miciah Fusilier. Ojo found other ways to make her impact felt on defense, notably leading the league in defensive rebounding with 10.3 defensive rebounds per game, a new season best mark. In the semi-finals against the Cold Hearts, Ojo set the OT Select record for most rebounds in a game with 21 🗜️

Finishing as the runner-up for DPOY was ISO WRLD’s Nation Williams who was one of four players this season to average 3.0+ SPG and 1.0+ BPG. Finishing in a tie for third in the Defensive Player of the Year race were YGE’s GG Banks, who led the league in steals per game at 3.8 SPG, and the Drifty Dreamerz’ Eve Long, who finished second in blocks at 2.5 BPG 🔥
